Fragrances for every type and occasion

The scent is not always a perfume

The selection of perfumes is huge, especially at XLL-Parfum.ch with its more than 7500 exclusive fragrances. And as if that weren’t enough, there are many perfumes available in different variants such as Parfum (Extrait), Eau de Parfum, Eau de Toilette, Eau de Cologne or Eau Fraîche.

What is the difference between these scent types, for example between Christian Dior Sauvage Eau De Parfum Spray and the Christian Dior Sauvage Eau De Toilette Spray? Well, the price is one difference, of course. But the right answer is simple: it is their fragrance concentration.

Parfum or extract

The actual perfume, also called “Extrait”, is the most intense and longest lasting form of a fragrance with a perfume oil content of over 20 and up to 30 percent. So you should be careful when spraying, already very small quantities are sufficient. Accordingly, the perfume or extract is often only available in smaller bottles without atomizers and is applied with the finger to the neck or wrists.

Eau de Parfum

An Eau de Parfum also smells long and strong, but not as intense as the “Extrait”. It has a perfume oil content between 15 and 20 percent. It is recommended for special occasions and important events. Of course, the fragrance can also be used in everyday life, but then a smaller dosage is recommended. It is interesting that the intense fragrances are more popular with women than with men, which is also shown by our top 50 women’s and men’s fragrances.

Eau de Toilette

With a perfume oil content between 5 and 15 percent, an Eau de Toilette is less “intrusive” than the Eau de Parfum and evaporates faster. It is perfect for everyday use and for getting to know a new scent and is therefore widely used. The disadvantage: it has to be applied more often or in a higher dosage. Nevertheless or precisely because of this, the “perfume classic” is the most common representative in our men’s assortment.

Eau de Cologne

The Eau de Cologne is a very light version of a perfume and evaporates the fastest. The perfume oil  concentration is only between 2 and 4 percent. This makes it perfect for intensive application, certainly also on clothing. The most famous representative of this perfume type, which often serves as an after-shave alternative, is the 4711 Echt Kölnisch Wasser. But this is just one of many Eau de Cologne at XXL-Parfum.ch.

Eau Fraîche

Fresh Water is slightly less concentrated than Eau de Cologne and has a perfume oil content of between 1 and 3 percent. With this concentration, the fragrance definitely does not last long, but is, as the name suggests, intended for a short kick of freshness, for example on the road. The Eau Fraîche is often applied on clothing, because it lasts longer there than on the skin.

What else is in a perfume?

The basic ingredient of a perfume is with about 80 percent alcohol. In addition, there are the perfume oils dissolved in distilled water, also called odoriferous substances.
